This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent will be responsible for providing advice and expertise on a broad range of national security, defense and military strategy development and implementation issues with respect to Oceania, South Asia, & Southeast Asia.

Duties

As a STRATEGIC PLANNER at the GS-0301-14 some of your typical work assignments may include: Monitor current and future developments in the strategic environment, focusing on those issues which bear on the President's U.S. National Security Strategy (NSS), Secretary's National Defense Strategy (NDS), and the CJCS National Military Strategy (NMS), U.S. Theater Campaign Plan and Strategies and Policies for Oceania, South Asia, & Southeast Asia, as well as on future weapon systems, organizations and force structures. Prepare recommendations for the formulation and implementation of Oceania, South Asia, & Southeast Asia strategies and policy, as well as recommendations for the Chief Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) advice to the National Security Council and Secretary of Defense on development and execution of strategies. Identify and track conferences, workshops and other engagement opportunities and attend, as required, to address policy position issues. Attend other meetings deemed critical by the Oceania, South Asia, & Southeast Asia Division Chief to provide overall situational awareness for the division. Develop, maintain, and utilize the Oceania, South Asia, & Southeast Asia Division's electronic filing system to provide an historic record of completed assignments.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14 grade level, if you fulfill the following qualifications: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector: Provides authoritative assistance on strategic policy issues impacting the Oceania, South Asia, and Southeast Asia region and U.S relationship. Proposes, prepares, reviews, and coordinates politico-military reports and studies which relate to U.S. Oceania, South Asia, and Southeast Asia regional interests. Develops, maintains, and utilizes electronic filing systems and historical records of correspondences, intelligence reports, conferences, workshops, and policy documents, as well as attending other engagement opportunities to address policy position issues. Coordinates or assists with travel and protocol arrangements and preparation for meetings, briefings, and materials. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
