This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center in Beltsville, MD.
In this position, you will provide administrative and clerical support in an office environment, and coordinate office activities for the organization in support of program goals and objectives.
Duties
Receive and read all incoming correspondence directed to the unit and initiate actions necessary for its proper disposition.
Participate in program planning support work such as research project coordination, travel documentation, budget coordination, agreements, procurement of supplies and equipment, and human resources administration.
Establish, maintain, and revise the office filing system and keep inventory of office supplies.
Prepare travel requests and vouchers for foreign and domestic travel.
Use an electronic calendar, database, or spreadsheet software to document employee leave schedules, appointments, and meetings.
Support Center activities including those related to the Program Analyst and Administrative Officer duties.
Welcome and assist Center visitors, staff, and scientists.
Act as the purchase card holder for the Center.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

GS-06
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes experience applying established guidelines involving program or administrative processes; assisting with office administration tasks including coordinating travel, ordering office supplies, or receiving leave requests; and using word processing programs to edit documents.
GS-07
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position, and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes experience using a variety of database software packages to enter data into systems; purchasing and procuring supplies and equipment; and coordinating events including conferences, seminars, or trainings.
Applicants must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
