About the Position: Serves as the systems administrator for the library's automation functions/programs, plans, directs and oversees cataloging and processing of materials for the library's collection, coordinates the selection of print and non-print materials for the library's collection, and assists with the administrative and technical direction of library services as a Librarian (Medical Science).
Duties
Keeps abreast of library technology and evaluate the need for new and/or upgraded automation requirements.
Plans, implements, and executes policies and procedures for cataloging and physical processing of materials, to include print, audiovisuals, special and archival collections as well as electronic materials, and Internet sites.
Assesses the quality and appropriateness of information services provided by the library and participate in the development and implementation of short and long-range plans.
Requirements

- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Basic Requirements:
Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree.
OR
A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.
AND
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service which includes providing support as a systems administrator for an integrated online library system overseeing multiple libraries to include the functions of cataloging, collection management, acquisitions, circulation, and interlibrary loan; applying knowledge of library methods, and principles of collection development and management to select and maintain materials that reflect present and anticipated user needs; identifying a wide range of cataloging and classification rules and principles to catalog materials that deviate from standard approaches; troubleshooting Library Automation systems, questions, and problems called in by patrons or library staff; conducting references and research in allied health, health care administration, and including all subject areas from general to scientific and technical to provide information using specialized reference sources, abstracts, and information sources including electronic files; assisting patrons with using the library and its tools and orients users to library facility services, resources, policies, and procedures.
OR
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education in library science or doctoral degree (Ph.D or equivalent) related to the position.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
