This position is located at a Central Texas Veterans Health Care System facility in Temple, TX. The incumbent of this position performs as a Laborer requiring prior experience or training and a degree of manual skill.
Duties
Major Duties include, but not limited to:
Incumbent may be required to break up pavement using jackhammers and clear sidewalks using large, industrial-type, powered snow blowers. Incumbent performs grounds maintenance on grades or slopes; digs ditches and trenches with picks and shovels where dirt is hard and compact. In some work situations, laborers operate large, industrial walking-type mowers and simple riding-type mowers with limited adjustments. Incumbent manually adjusts blades for cutting height, prepares gasoline/oil mixtures for powered equipment, and cleans and lubricates mowers. They cut trees using axes or chain saws, other work situations may require laborers to wash building using a high-pressure sprayer; separate, stack, carry and load/unload materials, supplies, and packages. Incumbent may lift and move very heavy furniture, equipment, supplies, etc., through confined spaced. Stripes parking lots, utilizing gasoline-powered striping machine.
At the Waco site, incumbent also helps the laundry truck driver in loading and unloading heavy hand trucks of linen for transportation to and from the laundry. Incumbent loads bags of dirty laundry into hand trucks for transportation to a motor truck equipped with hydraulic tail lift. Assists driver in positioning the truck by standing on ground and directing the driver to back-up and make turns.
Performing other duties as assigned.
