OIG is organized into seven operational units: the Immediate Office of the Inspector General, Office of the Counselor, Office of Audits and Evaluations, Office of Healthcare Inspections, Office of Investigations, Office of Management and Administration, and Office of Special Reviews. In addition to the Washington, DC, headquarters, OIG has offices located in more than 60 locations throughout the country.
Duties
As an Information Technology Specialist (INFOSEC), you will:
Plan, coordinate, manage, and execute the protection, maintenance, trouble shooting, and continual improvement of the assigned, mission critical VAOIG systems, ensuring threats, lacks in protection, deficiencies in operating capacities, environment and network instability, and more are identified and remedied under time sensitive circumstances.
Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of IT systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.
Promote awareness of security issues among agency-wide staff through a variety of methods, including routine IT-related correspondence, just-in-time training sessions with staff, and briefings during large staff meetings and orientation sessions.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
To be qualified for this position at the GS-14 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
Specialized experience is defined as work that involves:
- Planning, coordinating, and implementing robust processes to ensure that threats and deficits in IT protection, operating capacities, and network stability are identified and remedied; AND
- Planning, coordinating, and implementing overarching IT security projects and initiatives; AND
- Conducting risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed IT systems to identify vulnerabilities, risks, and protection needs.
In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-14, you must have been at the GS-13level for 52 weeks.
Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a nontemporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
