About the Position: As a Training Specialist (Training Events), you will serve as a training manager, course manager, project officer, and subject matter expert responsible for the design and development of training materials and courses under the direction of the Command Training Officer within the Exercises and Coalition Affairs (J7/9) Directorate of USSOUTHCOM located in Miami, Florida.

Duties

Creates and makes recommendations regarding program plans, policy, and activities; And oversees training course requirements and implementation. Oversees the creation and revision of training materials by performing instructional design, development, validation, and evaluation based on criteria using the Systems Approach to Training (SAT) process and other various methods. Makes presentations and recommendations on courses of action pertaining to training plans in support of command mission and defends command's position with conducting various training programs and addressing problem areas. Provides guidance on the educational soundness of training objectives, test materials, training materials; Implements new ideas, methods, or techniques and presents summaries or briefings. Develops, plans and presents various forms of onboarding, orientation, and skills training. Creates unique training programs addressing specific needs and improving on job skills and performance. Presents training and development programs using various forms and formats including group discussion, lecture, simulations, and videos. Oversees command training events including monthly command training days, onboarding training, mobile training teams, and Joint Professional Military Education Phase II satellite programs. Collaborates with educational institutions and briefs command leadership on creating developmental trainings for command personnel.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • A pre-employment and recurring background investigation is required (i.e. reference check with employers, co-workers, personal associates, and a review a driving record, credit history, criminal history, and military service).
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 5 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary, you can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • May be required to work overtime.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral CommunicationPlanning and EvaluatingTraining and Education Analysis Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Separated Military Members: Resumes will be accepted from members of the Armed Forces who indicate in their applications that they are available for appointment within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.
