About the Position: Serves as the Deputy Director of Operations for the Army Aviation Brigade under the Military District of Washington located at Fort Belvoir, VA. Manages daily operations, exercises planning, and consequence management operations within the National Capital Region.
Duties
Prepare and staff brigade Operational Orders (OPORDs), Fragmentary Orders (FRAGOs), and procedures to support technical rescue and aviation operations.
Coordinate the development of operational concepts, doctrine, and organizational designs for emerging aviation and technical rescue operations.
Serve as the primary means of operational continuity during transitions between Brigade Operations Officers.
Responsible for the planning and coordination of Air Mission Requests; to include procedures for validating, authorizing, and approving the request.
Maintain a plans repository, consisting of USNORTHCOM-DoD level, Army, and unit level contingency plans.
Prepare reports, responses to queries, position papers, justifications, and background papers, and presents high-level briefings, as required.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
- This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. Must pass urinalysis testing as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter. Must sign DA Form 5019-R.
- May be required to work rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays and/or on-call duty hours.

- One-year supervisory probationary period may be required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: assisting in supervising, directing, and coordinating staff; assisting with providing Brigade-level guidance with accomplishing the strategic and operational missions of the command; assisting in developing new policies for planned operations; planning and interface between agencies and staff; providing leadership in integrating various aviation programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Education
