About the Position: These positions are located at the Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (JMTC). This is a TERM position not to exceed 8 years with provisions to be made permanent without further competition. To be eligible for conversion to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment, you must have: Completed at least two years of current continuous service under a Term appointment in the competitive service and demonstrate successful job performance.

Duties

Perform a full range of warehousing functions, including receiving, unloading, loading, storing, issuing and delivering hazardous materials in accordance with established procedures and operating requirements. Assume custodial and property accountability for all stock handled. Ability to operate up to a 10,000 pound forklift and perform routine operator level maintenance on these vehicles. Assume liability for loads in motion by securing them to pallets with straps, banding or shrink wrap. Perform location surveys and physical inventories on minor bulk items in closed or open storage areas

• This position requires you to possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license.
• This position requires you to possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds with assistance.
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.

Physical effort is required in operating hand and foot controls while driving forklifts to turn, start, and stop the vehicle and while raising, lowering, and tilting loads. Warehousing duties require frequent lifting, carrying, and moving, with assistance, items weighing up to 70-75 pounds. Motor vehicle operation activities are similar to forklift operation, with the added requirement to load and unload storage tanks from supplier to local storage sites/tanks, and finally to customer storage tanks. ??????? Working Conditions: Some work is generally done inside in areas that are well lighted, heated, and ventilated. Work may also be done outside or in areas that are drafty and poorly lighted. Work done outside occurs in all kinds of weather conditions or where protection is usually limited to building extensions, etc. Employee must follow safety regulations and use safety equipment and precautions to avoid danger from fumes, flames, and explosions or to avoid slippage or falling from equipment. Materiel handling work is performed in close quarters of warehouses and on ramps or platforms. Employee is exposed to dust, dirt, or injury from falling stock, handling materials, mechanical equipment, and potential paint, acid, oil, gasoline, and propane spills. When working with packing foam or various types of preservatives, may be exposed to noxious fumes, skin irritants, and flammable chemicals. May be required to wear specialized protective devices in addition to basic protective equipment (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses and shoes, ear plugs).
