This position is located in the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection, in the Headquarters of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and provides support to assess regulated institution compliance with depositor and consumer protection standards.  Additional selections may be made from this vacancy announcement to fill identical vacancies that occur subsequent to this announcement.  

Duties

Performs economic research on various consumer-related research topics as needed by senior team members, with limited supervision. Suggests additional areas to research, at own initiative. Presents findings in written or oral form as needed. Performs analytical duties in support of research studies conducted by economists, including mathematical and statistical calculations, and implementation of econometric models, with limited supervision by senior staff. Compiles and supplies data and other information for incorporation into research studies. Maintains up-to-date expertise with several datasets that are be frequently used by economists in their research.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional qualifications information can be found here. Experience - Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 9 level or above in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is experience working on nationally representative surveys OR experience using economic principles and theories to perform economic research and analysis of economic policy; designing and using advanced econometric models- or- Education: Applicants must have 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree- or- Combination of Experience and Education:  Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. In addition to one of the above these minimum basic requirements must be met: Applicants must meet specific education requirements or have a combination of education and experience, as outlined below. 1 – Degree in economics, that includes at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus;  or 2 - Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in 1 above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Examples of qualifying experience include: individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation; supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; or teaching assignments in a college or university that included both class instruction in economics subjects and one of the following (1) personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems.
