About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain half way between Atlanta, Georgia and Birmingham, Alabama just off interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with Approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

Utilize knowledge and experience with state and federal hazardous waste regulation to develop hazardous waste profiles for wastes generated by the installation. Provide technical assistance to tenants, contractors and facility-use contractors on environmental laws and regulations. Respond to hazardous materials incidents and spills. Coordinate hazardous materials approvals with other organizations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in planning, directing, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating and providing technical guidance for environmental protection programs. Experience in environmental regulatory compliance direction and control of in-house or contractual activities for assigned environmental program(s). Inspecting of shop areas for non-compliance issues in the areas of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Title V (air), and National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) (water) permit requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Environmental Assessment and Data AnalysisEnvironmental Compliance and Preventive ActionEnvironmental Document PreparationEnvironmental Stewardship and Advocacy Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
