This announcement is primarily intended to fill positions within Safety & Mission Assurance and International Space Station program, however, this announcement may potentially be used to fill similar additional vacancies throughout the Johnson Space Center in other organizations.
Duties
Assists, provides oversight, and implements International Space Station (ISS) Safety Review Panel activities or Visiting Vehicle Verification Working Group (V3WG) which reduce the associated risks for the design, integration and operation of the ISS.
Assists in determining acceptable risk at thresholds defined by the Program.
Provides subject matter expertise in the design, development, and assessment of spacecraft systems for human space flight missions.
Builds and maintains technical expertise in spacecraft systems for use in supporting NASA programs, partnerships and providers to effectively communicate expertise with all levels of NASA Management.
Reviews detailed designs, program plans, progress reports, and priorities and communicate with appropriate parties to ensure compliance with requirements, mission objectives and schedules.
Communicates risk and when required, elevates risk(s) with technical recommendations to appropriate program control board(s) or directorate technical authority when elevation is required.
Contributes to efforts to develop technical knowledge, skills, and abilities within the organization. Develops discipline training and material to assist providers interpretation of safety and/or technical requirements and processes.
Provides concise, appropriate, and timely reporting to customers and management.
Providing issue resolutions on all aspects of development and operation, including system performance, requirements, configuration, component definition, operational capabilities, reliability, maintainability, safety, or verification, etc.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement (in the Education section below), to qualify for this position you must meet the requirements below. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement.
To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
performing verification, validation, reliability, or safety analysis of aerospace requirements (such as visiting vehicles, payloads, systems, etc.);
preparing, presenting, and evaluating specifications, designs, reports, or other written or oral communications with management, subject matter experts, or providers; and
evaluating vehicle, systems, payloads, or hardware changes through analysis, design, verification, or testing per requirements.

Education
Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following:
a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs
b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science
c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.
If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above.
Degrees in engineering technology are
not considered qualifying for this position.
