This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services at the Family Care Unit (FCU), Whiteriver Service Unit. in Whiteriver, AZ. The incumbent is responsible for supervising, managing, directing, coordinating, providing leadership, and evaluating the provision of nursing care provided on the inpatient unit and reports to the Chief Nurse Executive.
Duties
Responsible for providing direction, leadership, guidance, professionalism, supervision, and evaluation to the inpatient nursing staff.
Responsible for the provision of Nursing Care on the Unit, including compliance with standards of care, patient safety and compliance with other applicable standards.
Responsible for planning work for the unit; included is completion of work schedules, adjusting work schedules as needed to meet the staffing and patient care needs.
Evaluates daily operations and services provide to assure efficient use of resources, including patient flow, work flow, productivity, and takes appropriate corrective and evaluative action as needed.
Assures orientation of each employee including skills assessment, competency evaluation, safety, infection control, and compliance with mandatory orientation requirements.
Participates with the hospital Performance Improvement Coordinator to assure compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) for Hospital Standards.
Responsible and accountable for maintaining a budget that includes nursing personnel, FTE's, equipment, supply purchases, travel, training, etc.

Education:
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Areas of specialties for positions include, but are not limited to, Acute Care, Anesthesia, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Allergy and Immunology, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory, or other specialties identified for the position.
Licensure:
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements, applicants resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Responsible for providing direction, leadership, guidance, professionalism, supervision, and evaluation to the inpatient nursing staff; Responsible for Nursing Care including compliance with standards of care, patient safety and compliance with other applicable standards; Provide supervision to subordinate employees, including counseling, disciplinary action, corrective action, evaluation, and overall management of each unit employee; Participate with compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) for Hospital Standards. Performed Performance Improvement activities. Provided oversight for records, patient assignments, census and chart reviews.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
