About the Position: This position is with Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Installations, Energy and Environment, Executive Office located at the Pentagon, Arlington, VA.
Duties
Focus on substantive matters of direct interest and concern to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (ASA) and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army (PDASA) for Installations, Energy and Environment (IE/E).
Provide guidance and assistance managing of long-range complex projects, and studies, keeping the ASA (IE/E) and PDASA (IE/E) informed of critical developments and providing advice on all administrative aspects of various problems or situations.
Initiates and ensures effective communication, coordination and follow-up actions with subordinate elements, higher headquarters, other services and federal agencies, private companies, and professional organizations.
Advise the ASA (IE/E), PDASA (IE/E), and other senior leaders of all sensitive issues raised in incoming actions and provides staff elements with any specific instructions or comment from the ASA (IE/E) or senior leaders.
Serve as the ASA and PDASA scheduler and ensures the Executive Officer (XO) is updated on scheduled activities to include changes.
Analyze problems and other issues to determine the best and most appropriate course of action, collaborating with appropriate staff levels to develop, analyze, evaluate, and review projects relating to improving the effectiveness of work methods.
Provide professional advice, and carries out high priority assignments, studies, and projects personally assigned by the ASA and XO on a wide variety of sensitive and confidential matters.
Act in the absence of Executive Officer and ensures organization’s strategic plans, mission, vision and values are communicated and integrated into the team’s strategies, goals, objectives.
Responsible for being cognizant of the overall programs and challenges of the Secretariat for IE/E, and for keeping the ASA and PDASA fully informed as to the current status of issues, special studies or reports.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing advice on administrative and technical matters relating to staff actions and assignments; coordinating and updating changes to staff and the Executive Officer's schedule; and maintaining working relationships with senior leadership, Congressional representatives and various subject matter experts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
