About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency. It is located within the Southwest Georgia Martin Army Community Hospital Director of Executive Hospital Safety located in Fort Moore, GA. The primary purpose of this position serves as the Safety Specialist in a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) and outlying clinics.

Duties

Advise management, staff, and operating officials on safety matters affecting the medical treatment facility. Serve as the Safety Specialist in the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) and outlying clinics in various locations. Train staff in safety and occupational health requirements and safe work practices sufficient to ensure a safe work environment. Evaluate the local safety program to assure accomplishment of goals and objectives. Develop local safety directives and procedures for the facility.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • MUST COMPLETE THE CP-12 LEVEL 1 SKILLS OUTLINED IN THE 0018 JOB SERIES MASTER TRAINING PLAN AND BE AWARDED THE CP-12 SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE.
  • This position is designated Mission Critical.
  • This position requires employee to work under Adverse Environmental conditions.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing new safety programs, inspecting workplaces to determine possible hazards, and applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, practices or procedures to a medical treatment facility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas. AccountabilityLeadershipSafety and Health Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
