About the Position: This position is for a Space & Missile Defense Planner with the US Army Space & Missile Defense Command, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3, Special Mission Office located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Duties
Responsible for inclusion of Army space and missile defense capabilities and requirements into US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) planning and modernization documents.
Provide analytic, space control and missile defense expertise to G-3 in the analysis of Service, Joint, and Component space impacts and doctrinal issues in the development of planning guides.
Responsible for the development of subtasks and missions to be performed by designated contractual support.
Principal action officer in planning and developing space control and missile defense requirements, organizational structure, missions and functions, and operational conduct to USSTRATCOM planning processes and operations.
Gather operational requirements for counter space and missile defense operations from potential users, surveys existing technical resources, makes decisions regarding various technical alternatives and formulates options for execution by the command.
Performs analyses to determine applications of counter space and missile defense operations to assist in solving Army battlefield deficiencies and operational warfighting need.
Actively participates in a weekly command-wide space and missile defense working group ensuring each command staff elements and operational units receive the latest information and training on counter space and missile defense-related information.
Represent SMDC at Service, Joint, and USSTRATCOM working groups, in-progress reviews, and other conferences and meetings.
Prepare and present information and decision briefings to the command group, USSTRATCOM, and Army Commanders, requiring development of written analysis, requirements documentation, operational plans and oral presentations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.
- May require TDY up to about 30% of time, both within and outside the Continental United States.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign a DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- Position may require occasional work before or after regular duty shifts (e.g., come in early to support during a Joint Exercise).
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning and developing space control and missile defense requirements; integrating space and missile defense capabilities into operational missions to support the warfighter; AND serving as a representative for space and missile defense operational plans in various settings, to include working groups. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-02/GS-11).
