You will serve as a AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC LEADER in the PRODUCTION DIVISION of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII.

Duties

You will lead a group of trade and craft employees who perform a full range of work on large, complex heating, ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for commercial/industrial size systems. You will instruct the team on work requirements, procedures, deadlines and safety and demonstrate proper work methods. You will answer employee questions related to procedures, policies and instructions and provide updates to the supervisor on work progress and operations. You will examine, diagnose and repair HVAC systems including direct digital control systems, compressors, evaporators, condensers, bearings, etc. You will test for refrigerant leaks and use a refrigerant recovery/recycling station, to Environmental Protections Agency standards to safely reclaim, recycle and store the refrigerant before repairs can be made. You will conduct examination of equipment components by applying prescribed test procedures and equipment and by exploration of probable reasons for equipment failure, using all trade tools, test equipment and instruments.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift

The Screen-out Element for this position is: I HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. 1) Guiding team members during the installation, dismantling, modification, testing and repair of commercial, industrial, and residential refrigeration and air conditioning equipment; 2) Troubleshooting malfunctions by applying prescribed test procedures and equipment; 3) Practicing the use of layout techniques and safety instructions of the air conditioning and refrigeration trade.
