About the Position: This position is located in the Patient Administration Department, Naval Branch Health Clinic Groton CT. Where customer friendly attitude and dedication to providing accurate information are crucial to the command's continued successes in determining appropriate eligibility for care and services and to take appropriate action on requests for medical records and medical information.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
Duties
Develop relationships with local commands, Reserve Centers and National Guard units.
Verify eligibility via administrative documentation if applicable when eligibility is in question.
Maintain eligibility determinations in a departmental file during the period of eligibility or two years past last treatment received.
Receive requests for medical information from different sources such as other military and civilian treatment facilities, insurance companies, physicians, former patients, patients' relatives, attorneys, institutions of employment, etc.
Receive and enter eligibility determinations into the composite health care system (CHCS) and handle changes to eligibility and the update system.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service which includes performing data input into automated systems to retrieve medical information from Electronic Health Records Systems such as (MHS Genesis , AHLTA, HAIMS, Essentris, and CHCS), collect and/or review information for coding and reviewing patient's medical records, utilizing health care software systems to create and manipulate documents/spreadsheets to compose and process correspondence for medical request. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
