This position serves as a Supervisory Security Specialist, located in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), National Security Division (NSD), Executive Office, Security Division. The mission of the NSD is to coordinate the Department's efforts in carrying out its core mission of combating terrorism and protecting national security.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Supervisory Security Specialist that is an expert advisor to the Department of Justice and National Security Division leadership on security policies and issues; performing program planning, management, and oversight for the Security Division; and providing supervision for a workforce of Security Specialists. As a Supervisory Security Specialist at full performance you will perform duties such as: Planning and providing leadership, oversight, and direction for the division. Serving as the focal point in the development of long-range plans undertaken and designed to increase the effectiveness of the division's security staff. Conferring with executives in private industry and with officials in professional societies on matters related to developments in the security field. Providing advice, guidance, and direction to the security specialists within the Bureau and division on policy interpretation and application, resolution of particularly difficult problems and situations, implementations, and application of new techniques, and systems.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • You must successfully pass a security/background investigation and a drug screening.
  • You must be a current Federal employee within the Department of Justice on a Competitive Service appointment.
  • You must meet all applicable time-in-grade requirements by the closing of this announcement.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Supervisory Security Specialist, (GS-0080-14), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade. If you are a current Department of Justice employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Planning and coordinating all aspects of personnel, communications security and physical security; AND Establishing and managing security protocols and procedures in support of Continuity of Operations Plans (such as emergency preparedness, shelter in place, etc.); You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including Time-in-Grade, by the closing date of this announcement, 11/13/2023.
