This position is located in the Public Affairs Section of the VA Medical Center in Orlando, FL.
Duties

Coordinating events that adhere to military, civilian, religious, or cultural protocol;
Planning, coordinating, and implementing official functions for executive personnel related to events for distinguished persons, political appointees, executive leaders, and other dignitaries;
Briefing executive leaders on participating and conduct of official functions;
Working with staff to assist with the facilitation of special events throughout the organization;
Providing talking points, biographical information, and points of discussion to leaders;
Scheduling and attending meetings regarding the coordination of events;
Developing invitations, agendas, and programs for ceremonies and functions;
Making arrangements including room selection, setup, décor, change of venue due to weather, menu, seating arrangements, and other logistical considerations;
Arranging for photographic/video support;
Arranging escort for visiting dignitaries and ensuring proper parking facilities are made available for events;
Drafting policy changes and new procedures for the effective functioning of the Public Affairs office;
Establishing and maintaining event records for proper retrieval and archival purposes;
Advising and assisting lower-graded employees to carry out community relations activities by furnishing policy guidance, developing directives for policy procedures, and evaluating the organization's needs;
Collecting and summarizing input from specialized groups or individuals through surveys, public opinion studies, or group meeting and preparing reports to management;
Arranging and conducting tours of the facility, briefing local, national, and international visitors and officials on the function and operation of the organization;
Maintaining liaison with external public affairs personnel to produce ideas and develop recommendations to improve how events are conducted and communication with stakeholders;
Planning, designing, and conducting programs for special recognition events to improve employee moral;
Gathering information, producing materials, and disseminating to news media to obtain feedback on the effectiveness of communications;
Performing related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-11: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: coordinating public events; arranging keynote speakers, vocalists, military honor guards, etc. for public events; and drafting communication to advertise and pitch public events to the media prior to the event. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. ~OR~
A Ph.D., equivalent doctoral degree, 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.M. in a related field that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. One year of full-time graduate education is the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Transcripts required. ~OR~
An equivalent combination of specialized experience and progressively higher-level graduate education as described that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. Your experience must be detailed, and transcripts required.

Physical Requirements: The work of this position is primarily sedentary, although walking and carrying office files and other lightweight items are required. Sometimes heavier lifting of equipment is required to carry out the duties of the position. Work is performed primarily in an office setting with occasional exposure to inclement weather during outdoor ceremonial functions. The work requires frequent variations in duty hours, including evening, weekend, and holiday work when serving at protocol functions.
