This position is located at Departmental Offices, Economic Policy. As an Economist, you will be responsible for in-depth economic evaluation and analysis of the developments and issues in specific policy areas, including fiscal policy, Social Security and Medicare, pensions and retirement security, health, regulatory reform, labor and education, homeland security, agriculture, energy, and the environment.
Duties
As an Economist, you will:
- Analyze and assess, using appropriate economic tools and models, the potential impact of proposed or existing policy changes on domestic and/or global economic developments.
- In direct collaboration with Senior Treasury officials develop policy proposals, options and alternatives and recommends Treasury positions.
- Work with other analysts to monitor and assess the significance of current and future economic developments, including producing memos, papers, and briefings, under tight time constraints for senior Treasury policy-making officials.
- Plan, draft, edit, and present assessments of important microeconomic, tax, and spending decisions, and will be instrumental in providing advice and counsel to senior Treasury policy-making officials.
- Independently represent the Treasury Department in policy discussions with other U.S. government agencies, the White House or international organizations on complex economic and financial issues.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Basic Requirements:
A. Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Specialized experience for the GS-15: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
- Performing microeconomic or financial analysis for use in policy formulation or strategy recommendations that will advance work of financial services; AND
- Communicating across multiple economic and financial subject areas to effectively coordinate, lead and communicate; AND
- Preparing written briefing papers, reports, oral presentations, or decision memos on microeconomic developments for a policymaking audience.
Education
Basic Requirements:
