This is a temporary program support assistant position located at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI (695). The primary purpose of this position requires the incumbent to provided administrative support in the Office of the Associate Director, and to perform clerical and assistant duties for Supervisors, and other support staff. This temporary appointment may be extended up to one year if needed.
Duties
Perform routine administrative and clerical work through use of office automation systems.
Prepare documents, statistical reports, and correspondence.
Maintain databases to accurately reflect status of organizational charts and employee staffing.
Initiate, sign, and follow-up on completion of various types of work orders for assigned services.
Maintain knowledge on directives/instructional materials pertaining to administrative and clerical practices.
Maintain records on all correspondence and action documents for which she/he is responsible, providing necessary follow-up for timely reply or action.
Maintain prudent inventory, storage, and safe handling of office equipment and supplies, within policy/procedural guidelines.
Compose correspondence relating to administrative matters and other information/data sources.
Maintain knowledge on directives/instructional materials pertaining to administrative and clerical practices.
Review outgoing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy.
Initiate, sign, and follow up on completion of various work orders for assigned services.
Collaborate with management officials in collecting, collating, and disseminating data related to labor mapping, FMLA tracking, and quarterly time and leave report reviews.
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the ability to type 40 WPM.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: ability to solve problems, working with policies and procedures directly related to work responsibilities; knowledge of filing systems, office operations, references and manuals commonly used, knowledge and skills for effective operation of a personal computer, printers, software, clinical applications, and office equipment. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, medical terminology, and clerical procedures to accurately type and proofread written materials.

Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed a full 4 year course of study, above high school, leading to a bachelor's degree in a field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal pre-requisite.(TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level.
To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-XX. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
