About the Position: This position is located at the US Army Human Resources Command Research Operations and Ready Support Division, Fort Knox, KY.
Duties
Develops mathematical, statistical, and other automated system models for identification, collection, storage, and analysis of data used to support assigned projects and studies.
Formulates problems, select objectives, design better alternatives, collecting data, question assumption and data, reexamine objectives, and identifying new alternatives.
Develops and improves methodology for forecasting future populations and subpopulations.
Performs research and examines historical information to determine whether valid relationships can be established to assist in completion of assigned projects.
Write computer programs to extract and collect raw data and reduce it to the most usable format for evaluation and further investigation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent may be required to occasionally perform Temporary Duty Travel (TDY).
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). BASIC EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Bachelor's degree in Operations Research; or bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics, with at least 3 of the 24 semester hours in calculus. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT GS-11: To qualify for this position, your resume must show at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as work in the Federal service which includes conducting operations research analysis is to provide decision makers with sound scientific, and quantitative information as a basis for making decisions; planning and conducting research projects. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service, GS-09.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT GS-12: To qualify for this position, your resume must show at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as work that involves in the Federal service which involves the ability to work directly to correct deficiencies or improve the performance of systems, processes, or operations;involves applying expert knowledge of particular classes of problems and the ability to develop associated problem solving methods. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service, GS-11.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT GS 13: To qualify for this position, your resume must show at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as work that includes planning and conducting research projects within an organization, performing statistical studies of issues impacting an organization and resolving critical operations problems. Proficiency in Structured Query Language, Python, R Programing Language, or Statistical Software Suite (SAS) Coding for data science and report production. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service, GS-12.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements.
