Duties
This position serves as the primary Marine Investigator providing technical expertise and leadership to the Captain of the Port (COTP)/Officer in Charge Marine Inspection (OCMI) in all aspects of marine all aspects of marine casualty investigations. The Marine Investigator serves as the Civilian resident Prevention Department's source for continuity of investigation program policies, technical issues, special program support activity and is a primary contact with other Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies related to marine investigations.Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Requirements

Qualifications
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 grade level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include:
Independently conducting marine investigations, to include field work such as the subpoena of witnesses, charging of individuals, and interviewing witnesses;
Testifying as an expert witness in courtrooms regarding marine investigations;
Determining compliance with laws, regulations, and applicable standards, verifying the existence of proper vessel documentation and the certification and safe and proper operating order of systems (navigation, communication, alarm, lifesaving, firefighting, and pollution prevention systems) and machinery, and the soundness and acceptable parameters of vessel structures and hulls;
Providing technical expertise and training to junior marine investigators;
Writing analytical and investigative reports.
