You will serve as a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator Training Leader in the Public Works Department of NAVFAC NORTHWEST.

Duties

You will analyze, evaluate, and develop both formal and informal training programs encompassing mechanical utility system repairer and operation. You will conduct training sessions that will consist of both classroom and on-the-job training targeted to a mix of trainees. You will analyze public works mechanical trades requirements and evaluate work areas to develop cross training, upward mobility, intermediate level and helper/worker to journeyman training plans. You will serve as advisor/consultant to upper management regarding training related issues. You will perform journeyman USRO, boiler plant operator or mechanic, water treatment plant operator, or pipefitting level duties in order to maintain qualification of trade skills,

Requirements

  • You will be required to pass a Pulmonary Function Test.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE. 1) Maintaining mechanical utility systems and/or equipment to minimize downtime; 2) Planning and laying out installation, repair, and/or modification of a variety of complex mechanical utility equipment and systems; 3) Installing, connecting, and/or aligning pumps, air compressors, motors, valves, pressure reducers, backflow assemblies, switches ( i.e. pressure, temperature, level ), safety devices, and other similar control devices to ensure proper operation; 4) Using stationary and/or portable power equipment such as power saws, pipe threaders, pipe groovers and grinders; 5) Interpreting blueprints, schematics, diagrams, drawings, and specifications to properly install equipment and systems; and 6) Making technical decisions and/or judgements on systems and subsystems adhering to established practices, outlined objectives, and technical requirements.***NOTE: This experience must be fully and clearly supported in your resume.
