This position is located with the Facilities Management Services under the VA Providence Healthcare System in Providence, RI.
Duties

Major duties:
Gathers, processes, edits, transmits, and retrieves information related to Engineering Service, and medical center workload documented by the computer system.
Reports and discerns problems and related conditions to alleviate unique and recurring problems which require user/programmer interaction.
Tests all new Engineering Service package software and patches.
Assists in formulating training data for Engineering packages that relate to various medical center staff.
Trains medical center staff when Engineering Service software is utilized.
Assists in the troubleshooting of Engineering Service problems as they occur in regard to hardware and software.
Advises Chief and Associate Chief on computer hardware requirements and software updates and changes.
Trains Engineering Service personnel in the proper use of software programs, and word processing.
Obtains and provides manuals to assist users and acts to resolve problems as they arise.
Trains Engineering Service staff to assist in data entry for timely and accurate submission of the construction project applications and updating the project status and tracking reports.
Maintains up-to-date contract specifications within the word processing program.
Reconciles all fund control points to provide accurate balances vital to establishing budgetary requirement for the next fiscal year.
Reviews and examines all invoices for services performed and processes payment through Engineering Service control points including maintenance contract agreements, repairs or services to all medical and non-medical equipment not covered under maintenance contract, construction progress payments for both design (Architect/Engineer) and building contractors.
Verifies work completion and takes appropriate action to authorize payment.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, hours will be between 7:00am-5:00pm, exact tour of duty will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience: MUST possess one (1) year of specialized experience equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the Program Assistant position. To be creditable the experience must have been equivalent to the GS-6 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience: Program support experience that included automated data processing functions (hardware and software testing, troubleshooting, updates, and/or changes), accounting responsibilities (fiscal obligation, cost, and/or fund control), and project and/or resource management. (This experience must be documented in your resume.)

Physical Requirements: Technical and mental demands are high. The duties performed are of a precise nature and require long periods of concentration. Incumbent performs under stressful conditions caused by deadlines, constant change of demands and needs, and interruptions. Some walking and bending are necessary in the performance of the incumbents' duties.
