You will serve as a SHEET METAL MECHANIC in the SHEET METAL SHOP (17A), HULL DIVISION (TRF-310), REPAIR DEPARTMENT (TRF-300) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.
Duties
You will plan, design, layout, construct, and install sheet metal items and converse engineering drawing and construct unconventional items for subsequent standard production.
You will use precision measuring instruments to accurately measure plans and projects.
You will provide installation ventilation systems aboard submarines, provide information and technical assistance in other trades, supervisors, and coworkers within the facility.
You will conduct ship checks in order to determine the interferences at the installation rip-out sites.
You will perform journeyman sheet metal mechanic duties on board ships or in the shop.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Must maintain Limited Radiation Worker Qualifications.
- Must also be able to maintain an IT-II designation.
- May be required to work from suspended platforms or stagging.

Serving as a Sheet Metal Mechanic responsible for planning, designing, constructing, and installing sheet metal items.
Lay out, manufacture, and install sheet metal items and associated systems that have various combinations of features.
Develop drawings, sketches, and patterns through the use of AutoCAD, OMAX, SMP, or Trans Pax programming.
Apply principles of radial-line, parallel line development, and triangulation to devise and calculate patterns for various types of items.
Use precision measuring instruments to accurately measure plans and projects for items with numerous and irregular angles, planes, curves, and one-of-a-kind pieces.
Interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and other technical data to determine the best way to manufacture, repair, or modify various sheet metal products and ventilation ducts.
Provide installation sequence of varied sheet metal products and shipboard ventilation systems aboard submarines.
Develop special fixturing, tooling and provides sketches for the manufacturing of these items.
Conduct ship checks in order to determine the interferences at the installation or rip out sites.
Ability to perform job tasks in the sheet metal trade, mathematics, mechanical drawing, geometry, trigonometry, and shipboard nomenclature.
Independently plan, construct, and assemble objects and systems with combined shapes while ensuring product efficiency and cost effectiveness.
Determine bend allowance and minimum bend radius for various materials used by the sheet metal trade.
Conversion, repair, forge, etc. of submarine sheet metal equipment, structures, and materials.
