About the Position: Position may be filled as a Temporary Promotion or Detail not to exceed 1 year by a current permanent Army employee. Temporary Promotions or Details may be extended up to a maximum of 5 years and may be made permanent without further competition.
Position may be filled as a Temporary Appointment not to exceed 1 year, if candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Temporary Appointments may be extended up to a maximum of three years.
Duties
Fabricate, repair, modify and install a variety of sheet metal items having combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes.
Plan and lay out the work by interpreting multiview blueprints, sketches, diagrams or from sample items.
Train and instruct lower-level employees in the use of tools and measuring instruments, trade techniques, metal characteristics and blueprint reading.
Requirements
- Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- 3rd Shift position.
- Up to 50% business travel.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an SHEET METAL MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. Must have the ability to perform common tasks including planning, assembling, fabricating, repairing and installing sheet metal items. I can use hand or power tools and equipment such as punch/drill presses, brakes, saws, shears and burring/turning/bending machines. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT
Work requires prolonged periods of continuous exertion when bending and shaping complex or bulky sheet metal products. Also requires extended periods of standing and walking, climbing, working in cramped and awkward positions, and reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and power tools. Weight lifted or physical force exerted to form sheet metal may occasionally exceed 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in well lighted, heated, and ventilated shop areas. Some outside work is performed usually in periods of good weather. Subject to cuts, bruises, falls and burns. Appropriate safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, safety goggles, respirators, etc., are required.
