About the Position:
Civilian employees serve a vital role in supporting the Army mission. They provide the skills that are not readily available in the military, but crucial to support military operations. The Army integrates the talents and skills of its military and civilian members to form a Total Army.
Duties
Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair the simpler types of sheet metal articles.
Interpret multi-view blueprints, sketches, diagrams or from sample items.
Skill in planning, laying out and/or constructing sheet metal items/systems from a variety of metals having combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes.
Utilize hand or power tools such as presses, brakes, cutting, burring/turning/bending machines, and/or soldering and welding equipment.
Demonstrate proper work methods to lower graded employees.
Assemble sheet metal parts within an established time standard and an acceptable level of quality.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Business travel up to 50%.
- Shift work and overtime may be required on short notice to include nights, holidays and weekends in support of mission requirements.
- Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment and annual physicals.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Sheet Metal Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Forming single and double hem edges or single and double seams on circular, square, or rectangular articles; AND utilizing equipment such as hand and/or power brakes, shears and punch presses AND perform body work using filler to patch dents or holes. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

Physical Efforts: Work requires prolonged periods of continuous exertion when bending and shaping complex or bulky sheet metal products. Also requires extended periods of standing and walking, climbing, working in cramped and awkward positions, and reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and power tools. Weight lifted or physical force exerted to form sheet metal may occasionally exceed 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is normally performed in well lighted, heated, and ventilated shop areas. Some outside work is performed usually in periods of good weather. Subject to cuts, bruises, falls and burns. Appropriate safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, safety goggles, respirators, etc., are required.
