The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a first level supervisor, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to the 343d Training Squadron in support of initial skills and supplemental training, as well as armory, warehouse, supply, logistical, and vehicle support.
Duties
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of 343d Training Squadron initial and supplemental skills weapons training, armory, supply, and vehicle dispatch operations, ensuring that initial and supplemental skills weapons training, armory, supply, and vehicle operations at both Camp Bullis, TX and JBSA-Lackland comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represents the 343d Training Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
Develops and/or revises lesson plans and training materials.
Instructs students through assigned blocks of instruction at basic and/or advanced technical/administrative levels.
Oversees and provides Range Control and Live Firing Functions.

- Position has been identified as a faculty member of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) which is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC).
- Minimum degree requirement of an Associate’s Degree from CCAF or a regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary institution in the discipline or in combination with appropriate work experience in (Cont. below)
- and the methods and techniques of instruction.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings (shift work), weekends, and/or holidays.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- Work is performed in a classroom environment that involves everyday risks and common safety precautions. May at times require long periods of standing, moderate lifting and carrying ability (up to 50 lbs.).
- Work is also performed outdoors on firing ranges and in the Camp Bullis Armory.
- The work requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Employee is required to wear all uniforms provided by the employer and must wear and maintain uniform items in accordance with specified standards. The employee will be highly desired to maintain appropriate grooming standards (Cont. below)
- (hair and mustache) and present a professional (law enforcement/military) image at all times.
- Employee must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and periodic re-examination as required by employer. Specific physical standards addressed below under environmental factors.
- Specialized experience, which is experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, is desired.
- Must qualify and maintain qualification on all security forces weapons systems and possess ability to demonstrate operation, maintenance, and combat employment of all weapons systems.
- Position requires access to firearms. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence may not occupy this position in accordance with the Gun Control Act of 1968, as amended 30 Sep 96. (Cont. below)
- Employee must sign DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms or Ammunition.

This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Training Instruction Series 1712
This is a Community College of the Air Force GS-1712 PositionSection 9315 of 10 USC directs the commander of the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) to comply with standards established by the Secretary of Education to confer associate degrees upon enlisted members who have completed the requirements for the prescribed programs of study. To comply with this directive, all faculty members of the Community College of the Air Force must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate's degree in order for the school to meet accreditation criteria.
In addition to meeting the requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes 1) Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s). 2) Supervising or administering a training program. 3) Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results. 4) Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.
OR
EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.education is directly related to the position to be filled and was obtained in an accredited college or university. OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of experience and higher level graduate education as described above may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements are at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of a wide range of the principles and practical methods, techniques, and tools of instruction to teach a variety of students with a range of differences such as diverse ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest.
Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Knowledge of combat arms armory operations and procedures and combat arms training, firing, range instruction, weapons security, and combat arms repair procedures.
Knowledge of regulations, practices, and procedures involving supply, logistics, and vehicle operations.
Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures in particular with regard to weapons training, firing range, weapons security, and combat arms repair procedures.
Ability to gather develop, and analyze a variety of data and make recommendations based on analysis to include budget preparation and forecast as it applies to preparing operating and capital expenditure training budgets.
Skills in developing course materials and presenting formal and informal courses and briefings and monitoring delivery of same.
Skills in combat arms resources management, including oversight of maintenance of weapons, classrooms, firing range structures, munitions buildings, and weapons storage facilities.
Knowledge of special operating requirements, methods, and procedures for enforcing specialized personnel access controls and prevent unauthorized access to areas where stringent security requirements are enforced.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
