This position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), VA Medical Center, in the Nutrition and Food Services Department (N&FS) as the Program Support Assistant to the Administrative Officer, Nutrition & Food Service. The primary purpose of this position to provide a wide variety of administrative, clerical, and technical support to Nutrition and Food Service.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
Receives requests for information, advises when the information can be furnished, and provides it personally from files and records or follows up with staff to see that it is provided
Performs work involving the collection, compilation, and /or tracking of data and statistical information
Organizes data into Access databases or spreadsheet formats
Keeps/types meeting minutes, agendas and reports
Performs office automation duties using such software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, database, and/or graphics
Assists other users regarding selection of applications, training on a variety of standard application packages, and selection of appropriate formats and procedures for each task
Uses email to compose and retrieve correspondence and electronic calendar to access the service Chiefs schedule
Serves as the primary ADPAC and TMS Administrator for NFS
Serves as back-up purchase cardholder and Budget Technician
Schedules appointments, coordinates meetings, and/or arranges conferences
Creates and manages suspense files to address disciplinary and union actions within strict time limits
Tracks, orders, delivers and maintains office supplies
Serves as official timekeeper for the site and maintains service record cards for all employees
Work Schedule: 8:00 am to 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: The work area is usually an adequately lighted, heated and ventilated office of medical facility setting. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. The sedentary and may require some walking, standing, bending, carrying and/or lifting of light items like papers or books.
The work requires light to moderate levels/times performing keyboarding to prepare correspondence.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes but limited to: Comprehensive knowledge of procedures, and operations applicable to clerical assignments to receive telephone calls, greet visitors and personally answer substantive nontechnical requests for information; prepare correspondence, reports, and other documents; establish and maintain program files/records; and review and process the program mail. Knowledge of various office automation software processing procedures and function keys and the similarities and differences among software types to produce a wide range of documents, such as graphics or tables within text, to edit and reformat electronic drafts, and to update and revise existing databases or spreadsheets. Knowledge of standard office equipment, such as computers, copiers, fax machines, and office automation systems to perform a substantial range of office automation support. A fully qualified typist is required. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and commonly used specialized terminology to prepare material correctly.
