The primary responsibilities are to assist patients by escorting them to various locations within the facility to include but not limited to the Urgent Care Center, building and parking lots around the facility. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to transport lab specimen and to positively interact with our patients and customers. The incumbent is expected to answer questions, often posed repeatedly, and with enough variance that answers cannot be prepared in advance.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Incumbent must respond to two-way radio calls to transport our clients.
Incumbent must be able to safely transport patients to various locations throughout the facility.
The incumbent is responsible for the safe pickup and delivery of medications for patients to the nursing staff.
The incumbent must have general knowledge of the Healthcare System's organizations, functions, activities, personnel, and physical layout.
The incumbent may be the first VA employee with whom the customers come into contact, requiring a high level of customer service.
The attitude, appearance and helpfulness of the incumbent, provide a basis for the customer's first impression of the healthcare system.
The incumbent must be aware of the movement of personnel and offices with special attention to changes in phone numbers, room numbers, and key personnel to give accurate, up-to-date information and to direct or escort customers to the appropriate location.
Arranges for complainants to see an official who may be able to satisfy their wishes, or accept a formal report, suggestion, or complaints for consideration by others, depending upon the wishes of the customers.
Responsible for receiving and directing patients and visitors, answering routine inquiries, and making appropriate referral of questions concerning patients 'needs.
Must be aware of available publications, forms, and other informational material provided by the facility for the patients and customers.
Must know how to effectively/appropriately respond to customer's requests and needs, determining those of an emergent nature.
Must know how to refer calls, answer questions, and refer patients to proper clinic, and relay information regarding patient's conditions.
Must have strong interpersonal skills, as specialized skills are required for maintaining customer relations with a wide variety of customers with special needs and problems. Tact and professionalism will be maintained always.
Must have knowledge of computerized data entry arid; information processing systems used by the facility and must be able to complete required computer training.
The primary responsibility is to assist patients by safely transporting and/or escorting them to various locations within the facility to include but not limited to the Urgent Care Center, Radiology, local Vet- Tran stops, or their vehicles.
Transports lab specimens and documents as requested.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (subject to change based on the needs of the agency)

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: This position requires pushing wheelchairs and stretchers weighing up to 200 pounds for up to eight hours; walking, standing, climbing stairs, emotional stability, and working dose with others. Incumbent must maintain cleanliness standards and good hygiene. The work is performed in an outpatient clinical environment and exposed to various elements within the health care system.
