About the Position: The Walla Walla District US Army Corps of Engineers is comprised of motivated and talented employees providing the very best engineering services for communities in the Pacific Northwest. The District helps manage local water resources for navigation, flood damage reduction, disaster assistance, hydroelectric power generation, and other natural and heritage areas.

Duties

Serve as a specialist in the Public Affairs Office with responsibility for researching, writing, and disseminating sensitive, critical information. Produce video, photographs and artwork/graphics for inclusion in publications, exhibits, websites, and speeches to communicate the mission of the District. Capture and record video footage and images using digital cameras and related equipment. Imports video footage into digital/analog processing software (i.e., Adobe Premiere) to edit and produce quality video products. Coordinate plan, design, write, edit, produce, and distribute information brochures, pamphlets, and other District publications and exhibits. Assure materials are suitable to the age and interest of the audience and meets time constraints and deadlines. Advise District staff on public information/public relations matters, ensuring advice is based on sound, logical public relations theory and consistent with applicable Laws, polices, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • May be required to perform official travel up to 25 percent of the time.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes video production, researching, writing, and disseminating communications in print or electronic formats for an organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Public Affairs. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
