About the Position: This position is with Defense Health Agency. It is located within the Director of Dental with Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center; Fort Eisenhower, GA. Conducts safety and occupational health and patient safety surveys at a military dental organization; recommends measures to eliminate or control hazardous practices and conditions which may cause mishaps; prepares supplemental written safety procedures for application to local organizational components.

Duties

Perform periodic inspections to evaluate compliance with appropriate safety and occupational health regulations. Analyze or evaluate new and existing jobs, processes, products or other systems to determine existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. Train workers, supervisor, managers and other safety an occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. Apply safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on ore resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. Inspector surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • TDY up to 25%
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) performing periodic inspections to determine compliance with appropriate safety and occupational health regulations; 2) drafting report findings on physical conditions and unsafe practices or situations; 3) providing technical recommendation to management for safety and health in the repair and maintenance of installation facilities and equipment; and 4) preparing brochures and newsletters to promote safety awareness through seminars, or training courses. OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or master's or equivalent graduate degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Data AnalysisProgram ManagementSafety and HealthSafety and Health Training and Education Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
