About the Position: Fort Gordon is in Augusta, Georgia, home of the Masters Golf Tournament and the Cyber Center of Excellence. It is approximately 142 miles east of Atlanta, 80 miles southwest of Columbia, South Carolina and 122 miles northwest of Savannah, Georgia. Ft Gordon's location offers close proximity to a metropolitan area and is an easy drive from Atlanta, Savannah the beaches along the Atlantic Ocean and the mountains.

Duties

Serves as an advisor to the Garrison Safety Manager and assists with the planning, organizing, developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive Occupational Safety and Health Program for all organizations assigned. Monitors workplace locations and evaluates activities with known safety problems as indicated by a high record of work injuries, or a variety of hazardous operations and environmental conditions. Ensures compliance and enforcement of various safety and occupational health subprograms, such as medical surveillance, radiation safety, fire prevention and protection, accident reporting and investigation, physical safety, and explosive safety. Evaluates complex safety problems; analyzing available data and observations to isolate causes, failures, and contributing conditions. Provides guidance to all operating levels concerning safety requirements and responsibilities. Monitors local Safety Improvement/Awareness Programs to evaluate the effectiveness of training. Coordinates problem-solving activities involved in the procurement of required safety equipment, determination of respirator requirements, and industrial hygiene issues with related operational and support program personnel. Prepares written guides, SOPs and standards or regulations to prevent unsafe conditions and prevent accidents.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have or to attain CP-12 Professional Level I Certificate within 12 months of employment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have or to attain Level I Explosives Safety Certificate within 12 months of employment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have or to attain Level II Explosives Safety Certificate within 24 months of employment.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
