This position is located with the Forest Service, State and Private Forestry, Director, Conservation Education in the Washington Office. The incumbent administers a professional development and training program designed to support the Forest Service's Environmental Education strategic objectives.

Duties
Responsibilities listed below are at the full performance level GS-13.
Promote innovative environmental education methods, techniques, and approaches.
Analyze, develop, implement, and evaluate an environmental education/training program.
Direct, guide, and integrate team members engaged in environmental education and training-related projects.
Responsible for accurate accounting and execution of grants and agreements with local, state, and non-governmental organizations in accordance with financial management procedures.
Publish articles and provide information related to environmental or natural resources education.
Write reports, presentations, and briefings in succinct and organized manner to convey complex or sensitive information.
Coordinate with appropriate staff and partners to promote environmental education efforts and related initiatives.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement:
General Education and Training Series, GS-1701:
Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in environmental education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in environmental education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in above.
Selective Placement Factor:
Experience in leading or managing a regional or national Environmental Education program at the pre-K-12-adult level.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-13:Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as majority of the following: Employ various education and training methods designed for environmental education; Assist in environmental or natural resource education policies and regulations, training design, development, coordination, problem solving, and obtaining resources; Develop a broad scope of development duties, objectives, and program goals to carry out work assignments effectively and efficiently; Collaborates with other subject matter experts in obtaining program information to optimize environmental education effectiveness; Create reports, special course material, seminars, workshops, and informational briefings on a variety of enviornmental education topics.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
