About the Position: This position is located at either San Antonio, Texas or Falls Church, Virginia with the Defense Health Agency - Healthcare Admin, Medical Affairs Department. Serves as the technical/clinical expert for provider adverse action and adverse event management in the Healthcare Risk Management Program. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Duties

Works as a member of a multidisciplinary team in the review and analysis of medical malpractice claims, Active Duty (AD) death, AD disability and adverse action cases. Applies knowledge of current and historical clinical practice to analyze case files and identify healthcare providers who were significantly involved in a paid malpractice claim. Tracks efficiency of the Healthcare Risk Management (HRM) process; recommends and implements procedural improvements. Contributes to formulation of corporate policies and procedures regarding standards of care and medical malpractice criteria. Consults, advises, and provides subject matter expertise on HRM concepts and methodologies.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• One year trial/probationary period may be required.

Basic Requirement for the HEALTH SYSTEM SPECIALIST (HRM): One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing medical claims, assisting with the formulation of policies and procedures regarding standards of care and medical malpractice criteria, and developing healthcare risk management recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
