You will serve as a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST in the Industrial Hygiene Program Office (IHPO) of NMRTC PAX DET INDIAN HEAD MD. This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will plan and carry out inspections, handling problems in accordance with office policies. You will evaluate industrial hygiene related aspects of research on new or rare chemicals for which toxicity data or standards are not available. You will provide detailed written reports of industrial hygiene survey findings. You will utilize personal computers, MS Office Suite software i.e. Word, excel, and or access, and DOEHRS-IH systems. You will provide detailed written reports of industrial hygiene survey findings.

Requirements

ALL APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE Basic Requirements The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; (Your transcripts must be attached.) Failure to submit a copy of your transcripts with your application will result in an ineligible rating. or A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; .(Your transcripts must be attached.) Failure to submit a copy of your transcripts with your application will result in an ineligible rating. or Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (external link) (ABIH). (A copy of your license or registration must be attached) Failure to submit a copy of your license or registration with your application will result in an ineligible rating. Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable. Evaluation of Education All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) as a professional engineering curriculum. In order to qualify for this position your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered. In addition to meeting the BASIC REQUIREMENT: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices carrying out all industrial hygiene programs; Evaluating occupational health hazards to include those for which the nature and extent of hazard is not completely understood; Devising control measures for ventilation, shielding, material, substitution, and change in work procedures; Investigating health problems which arise among workers to determine probable cause; Drafting industrial hygiene policy and guidance for occupational health and safety professionals; AND Applying/adhering to federal, state, (e.g., Department of Defense (DoD), and Department of the Navy (DON)), occupational health laws, policies, regulations, guidelines, methodologies, and objectives in the development and implementation of a region-wide industrial hygiene program.
