The employee works within the Maintenance Division of Facilities Management (FM) service line at the St Cloud VA Health Care System (SCVAHCS). Employee performs journeyman level duties to install, repair, remove, modify align, calibrate, and overhaul steam and condensate, potable cold and hot water systems, and equipment at the SCVAHCS.
Duties
Major duties listed but not limited to:
Perform a variety of installation, preventive maintenance, repair, equipment replacement, and new construction pipefitting and welding
Perform journeyman level duties to install, repair, remove, modify align, calibrate, and overhaul steam and condensate, potable cold and hot water systems, and equipment at the SCVAHCS
Weld such items as door frames, beds, lockers, electrical boxes, desks, chairs, aluminum street light standards, pruning poles, valve seats, traps, stainless steel sinks, dish machines, food service transport carts and equipment
Repair and fabricate parts for utensils and special equipment for Canteen, Dietetics, Facilities Management, Laundry, Laboratory, Specialty Care, and other hospital services
Perform repairs to garage equipment such as tractors, tractor tools, snow and road equipment, and garden and ground equipment
Expected to perform duties independently without close supervision
Performs installation, maintenance, and repair work on all primary high-pressure steam and condensate return systems, pumped, gravity and vacuum assisted
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (work hours may be further discussed during the interview)

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT # 1: Without more than normal supervision? Must have the ability to do the work of an Pipefitter without more than normal supervision in performing the full range of duties of a Maintenance Mechanic. Related experience includes: perform regular and reoccurring preventive maintenance, repair, and replacement of pipefitting and plumbing piping, fittings, accessories, hot water tanks, radiators, fixtures, etc., located in all buildings scattered throughout the campus is the primary work; perform work on systems such as flash tanks, steam PRV's, heat exchangers, trap stations, steam distribution, humidifiers, potable and non-potable water systems, condensate return vacuum systems, and sewerage distribution systems; plan the installation, modification and repair of various high-pressure piping systems and equipment, including the needed routing, placement, pitch, incline, and elevation of systems; must be able to use all the tools of the trade safely and properly and perform at a journeyman level; conduct minor welding in the support of the Maintenance Departments which includes high-pressure (125 psig) steam lines and fittings as required; and fabricate parts and repair items as needed.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT # 2: Driver's License: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid U.S. state-issued driver's license by entrance on duty.

Working Conditions: Frequently exposed to hazards including moving objects, elevation, high and low voltage conductors and components, operating machines, toxic fumes, high and low temperatures, etc., for short durations. Subject to injuries such as cuts, burns, electrical shock, slips and falls, bruises, etc. Work is performed inside and outside and may be performed in inclement weather. Outside work is regulated to avoid the inclement weather if possible.
