The employee works within the Maintenance Division of Facilities Management (FM) service line at the St Cloud VA Health Care System (SCVAHCS). Employee performs journeyman level duties to install, repair, remove, modify align, calibrate, and overhaul steam and condensate, potable cold and hot water systems, and equipment at the SCVAHCS.

Duties

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/01/2023. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT # 1: Without more than normal supervision? Must have the ability to do the work of an Pipefitter without more than normal supervision in performing the full range of duties of a Maintenance Mechanic. Related experience includes: perform regular and reoccurring preventive maintenance, repair, and replacement of pipefitting and plumbing piping, fittings, accessories, hot water tanks, radiators, fixtures, etc., located in all buildings scattered throughout the campus is the primary work; perform work on systems such as flash tanks, steam PRV's, heat exchangers, trap stations, steam distribution, humidifiers, potable and non-potable water systems, condensate return vacuum systems, and sewerage distribution systems; plan the installation, modification and repair of various high-pressure piping systems and equipment, including the needed routing, placement, pitch, incline, and elevation of systems; must be able to use all the tools of the trade safely and properly and perform at a journeyman level; conduct minor welding in the support of the Maintenance Departments which includes high-pressure (125 psig) steam lines and fittings as required; and fabricate parts and repair items as needed.
