The Program Support Assistant acts as liaison between patients and medical center staff, serving as consumer advocate in the Medical Foster Home Program.

Duties

Major duties include: Accepts telephone calls from patients/caregivers, MFH staff in the field, other VA staff, and/or community agency staff, regarding program inquiries, patient care concerns, etc. Composes correspondence as indicated to assist with clinical functions of MFH staff. Composes reports and meeting minutes as directed by MFH Program Coordinator. Corrects errors in team data entries of workload (telephone and visit) encounters. He/she schedules the patient in the program. Runs errands in support of team function as requested by home care clinical staff. Coordinates consultation, referrals, scheduling and cancelling of appointments for patients requiring specialty services and diagnostic procedures within the VA Medical Center. Problem solves office equipment malfunctions, obtaining IRM, Engineering, copier/fax technician, or Facilities Management support as indicated. Compiles end-of-month MFH AMIS report data and corrects as needed before transmitting to Austin, including assuring all MFH patient admissions/discharges have been entered and no encounter errors are outstanding. Coordinates reassignment of just-discharged MFH patients to a primary care provider to assure they continue to receive care. Serves as the timekeeper for the service by validating time and attendance for all service employees and entering associated data into the appropriate tracking system. Provides clerical support to MFH Program Coordinator in carrying out administrative duties. Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/02/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. NOTE: Must be able to type 40 words per minute. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing clerical/administrative duties in an office environment; answering and directing phone calls; preparing correspondence; maintaining files/records; and using a computer to perform a variety of support tasks. At this grade level, applicants should have good verbal and written communication skills. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items (medical records, computing devices, manuals, papers, books, small parts), or driving an automobile for home visits. The work requires manual dexterity for computer data entry, office machine operation and filing. However, in general, the work does not require unusual physical demands. The work does require emotional stability to resolve crisis situations.
