About the Position: Works under general administrative supervision of the ASAP Prevention Coordinator Manager, or the Alcohol and Drug Control Manager who makes assignments. Incumbent determines the technical objectives, defines the specific problem, selects approaches for solving complex problems, and develops and independently carries out the plan. Provides services to all active duty, family members and the civilian work force at the Installation.
Duties
Coordinates with the Risk Reduction Program SMEs to ensure identification of high risk behaviors and suicidal ideation within affected populations.
Serves as installation POC for Suicide Prevention and serves as local subject matter expert on Army policy/procedures related to suicide prevention.
Ensures that installation suicide prevention efforts involve post wide education/awareness for all active duty, family members and civilian work force.
Serves as SME and provides logistical coordination for train-the-trainer certification and gatekeeper training for the suicide awareness, prevention and suicide skills intervention training products endorsed by Army.
Participates in National/DoD/Local Suicide Prevention Conferences to further knowledge and education.
Serves as manager of the installation Suicide Prevention Program and works with the Installation Community Health Promotion Council (CHPC) to ensure that suicide prevention activities are carried out in accordance with guidance in AR 600-63.
Requirements

Basic Requirement for Suicide Prevention Program Manager:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as psychology, sociology, political science, education. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes researching and gathering information to develop guidance for a suicide prevention awareness program; provide and conduct training on suicide prevention awareness; coordinate with a variety of agencies within the installation and outside of the agency to promote suicide prevention awareness.
OR
Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as psychology, sociology, political science, education. OR
Specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least two years of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required three years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
