You will serve as a Ship Superintendent in the Project Office of SUPERVISOR OF SHIPBUILDING BATH.

Duties

You will coordinate, monitor and expedite the efforts of the SUPSHIP office and supporting NAVSEA activities throughout the ship construction period focusing on event necessary to assure timely ship delivery. You will monitor the activities and problems confronting the shipbuilder and various SUPSHIP BATH departments by conducting regular conferences and establishing a reporting system to keep others informed of ship status and associated issues. You will develop and provide comprehensive and timely management reports. You will coordinate the accomplishment of authorized new or modified work by the contractor. You will initiate contract change action, including technical scope preparations. You will coordinate engineering review, technical approvals, cost review, and assist with contract negotiation of "in-process" changes. You will participate in the compartment inspection process, trials, transits, drydocking and special events. You will coordinate with the ship's force and contractor, as necessary, to deconflict crew activities and any ongoing contractor work. You will provide coordination, guidance and assistance to the ship's force relative to crew move aboard, ship loadout and other ship/crew integration activities. You will monitor progress and provide management attention in order to assure timely correction deficiencies by the contractor, Supervisor's Office and NAVSEA. You will provide comprehensive analysis of contractor's production improvement initiatives using earned value, progressing and deck plate observation. You will provide a comprehensive production assessment of ship progress to major milestones.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires the ability to work onboard ships.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector monitoring contract activities or performance for shipbuilding, ship construction, repair, or modernization projects to ensure compliance with contract or project requirements.
