The Program Support Assistant position is in the Associate Director Service Line, Veteran Experience Office (VEO) at the Detroit VA Medical Center (VAMC). The primary purpose is to manage multiple projects within the service, coordination of meetings/events, supports Patient Advocate and Employee Engagement Program.
Duties
Major Duties:
Possess a high degree of skill in oral and written communication as well as excellent interpersonal relationships with staff, service organizations, volunteers and community groups.
Tracks, trends and analyzes data for reporting to medical center leadership and services throughout the medical center.
Follows through with written detailed response. Meeting established targets and deadlines.
Perform under pressure and under difficult circumstance and monitors emergency situation and responses.
Administratively triage concerns and daily prioritize work.
Utilize a variety of computer software programs to enter data for the development of reports/presentations by other services.
Knowledge of style and format for writing complex meeting minutes, memorandum, and other written correspondence. Knowledge related to transcription of minutes.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/31/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
General Experience: Must possess one year of general experience. General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the Program Support Assistant. OR,
Education: Must possess two years of education above high school. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. (Transcripts must be submitted). OR,
Combination of Education and Experience: Must possess a combination of experience and education as described above. In order to determine a combination of education and experience, first determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determine your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for that grade level. For example, the position to be filled is a Program Support Assistant, GS-6. An applicant has 8 months of qualifying specialized experience and 20 semester hours of college. The applicant meets 67 percent of the required experience and 33 percent of the required education. The applicant meets 100 percent of the total requirements and is qualified for the position. (Transcripts must be submitted).

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is generally sedentary but may involve walking to various areas throughout the facility, as well as carrying items such as reports and manuals. Includes walking, standing, bending, kneeling, typing, computer processing, filing, receiving and delivering mail and answering telephones, carrying of light items such as medical records and occasionally assisting with a wheelchair. This position demands emotional stability as in most instances, relationships with patients can become intense and the employee is often placed in a position of stress.
