Maintenance Worker will service the Atlanta VA Medical Center in Decatur, GA, performing duties incidental to the maintenance and repair of all buildings, utilities and facilities as a representative of the Area Management Unit
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to:
Perform work independently without supervision.
Perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of large complex buildings and related structures, fixtures and utilities
Perform visual examinations and operational tests to determine the need for, and the performance of, repair work.
Build or repair cabinets, doors, floors, or other fixtures used in buildings.
Follow guidance set forth by federal, state and local codes relating to the trades involved.
Determine tools, equipment, and materials required to perform assigned job.
Inspecting, building, furniture, or Material to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
Plan and complete work from initial layout to final product completion, obtaining necessary assistance and guidance from work leader.
Work with power tools such as radial saws, band saws, electric hand saws, electric joiners and planners.
Prepare surfaces for painting using standard methods of sanding, chipping, scraping, grinding, heating, cutting and brushing.
Use correct and safe operations of all tools required in the mechanical trade in addition to maintaining tools in safe and usable conditions.
Prepares surfaces by methods such as sanding and wire brushing.
Work with copper, steel, galvanized and other metals, mortar, cement, plastic and other materials.
Installing storage cabinets, x-ray view boxes, and safety trends on steps.
Laying floor title, and installing ceiling titles, door closures, door stops, casters on desk, chairs, and food carts.
Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power tools.
Work from sketches, blueprints, and other written and oral instructions.
Interpret work plans and read drawings to complete assigned tasks.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent frequently handles objects weighing up to 50 pounds. They will also frequently work in awkward and cramped positions. Occasionally lifts weights over 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: The Incumbent works inside-many area that may be dusty and dirty, and occasionally is outside in bad weather. He/She may be exposed to various degree of temperature changes. Noises, vibrations, noxious gases, and fumes. The incumbent is required to occasionally work at various heights, using ladders, scaffolds, etc.
