This position will serve the Social and Behavioral Sciences Branch (HNE52). Activities in this Branch incorporate both the clinical and research-related activities within the guidelines of carefully defined and approved clinical research protocols. The incumbent is responsible for providing specialized nursing support during clinical research studies.

Qualifications

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Completion of a graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. OR Completion of a Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). AND You must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: In addition to the basic education and licensure requirements, in order to qualify for the Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) positions below: In addition, in order to qualify for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), GS-0610 position at the GS-09 level, you must have: A. completed a master's degree in professional nursing; OR B. at least 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: observing patient's conditions, assessing nursing needs, and providing required nursing care; administering prescribed oral medications, hypodermic injections and intravenous feeding; preparing patients for tests, examinations and treatment; preparing and reviewing records, laboratory sheets, etc., AND possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. In addition, in order to qualify for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), GS-0610 position at the GS-11 level, you must have: A. completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program, or related medical science field; OR B. at least 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: analyzing and documenting trends in patient conditions and assisting in the development of a patient management plan in response to the data obtained; performing and documenting physical assessments and patient histories; performs invasive procedures under the guidance of an experienced Nurse Practitioner or physician, which may include lumbar puncture, bone marrow biopsy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, fine needle aspiration, ommaya reservoir access, central line removal, arterial blood gas, suturing, skin punch biopsy, cytotoxic administration, etc.; accurately and safely providing for administration of prescribed medications and therapies, under the supervision of an experienced Nurse Practitioner, AND possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. In addition, in order to qualify for an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner), GS-0610 position at the GS-12 level, you must have at least 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: predicting and analyzing trends in patient conditions and developing a patient management plan in response to the data obtained; performing invasive procedures and evaluating and interpreting findings; providing patient and family counseling and health education; leading patient care rounds and conferences; serving in formal or informal leadership positions, such as preceptor to graduate students and Nurse Practitioners new to the organization. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
