Serve as a Prosthetics Clerk for Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS} at the VA Caribbean Healthcare Systems by performing clerical work in support of the care and treatment given to patients such as, receiving patients, processing and issuing of DME, delivering items and mailing items when necessary. The incumbent also provides initial guidance to our veterans on our provision of services.
Duties
Duties of the position include but are not limited to:
Operates the prosthetic software package to maintain a detailed and accurate accounting of all transactions taken
Examines clinical computerized health records to determine legal eligibility and medical entitlement for orthotic/prosthetic items and services.
Receives and reviews diverse types of correspondence/documents to determine delivery locations.
Verifies delivery date, correct address and type of mail system that will be used for running mail.
Determines and refers urgent inquiries to professional staff for immediate actions.
Works closely with supply chain management (SCM} on inventory concerns for all PSAS inventory locations.
Ensures separate areas for clean and dirty items and initiates all necessary paperwork to have an item condemn/excess item which cannot be used.
.Reviews all incoming shipments of items for correctness and delivery to the patient
Initiates appropriate paperwork to correct any discrepancies.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

This position requires a typing requirement of 40 words per minute.
English Language Proficiency:
In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve indirect patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic spoken and written English. You must be proficient in basic spoken and written English and in spoken Spanish to meet the requirements of this position.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge of computer software programs, (i.e., MS Access database, MS Word processing, MS Excel spreadsheets and communication programs,), required to display, sort, retrieve, revise and update administrative information, maintain databases in various systems, prepare and present written and/or oral quantitative/qualitative reports, and verbal responses/correspondence to all levels of the organization.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Physical Requirements: The position requires frequent sitting. Standing, bending and walking to use the office equipment required (copiers, Facsimiles, calculators, dedicated computers) and the retrieving and filling of documents. May require lifting of no more than 70 pounds and the handling copier paper or other equipment. Employee may have to walk some distance while directing patients to the proper area for their care.
