You will serve as a SECURITY ASSISTANT in the Security Office of NSTC GREAT LAKES.

Duties

You will validate security clearances using automated software. You will meet with applicants applying for security clearances to ensure all information is detailed and accurate. You will review completed documentation to initiate applicable investigations with the Defense Security Services or Office of Personnel Management. You will compose security documentation for supervisor's signature which may include correspondence, reports, charts, messages, technical papers, or briefing presentations. You will develop and implement document control and tracking procedures for classified materials.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing expertise in processing a variety of background check documents and/or security related documents for an agency; 2) Reviewing documents for errors and omissions; 3) Tracking the status of security clearance request (i.e., background investigations, re-investigations, fingerprints); and 4) Utilizing automation systems (i.e. Defense Information System for Security (DISS) and other OPM databases according to policies and procedures. GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Collecting data for security programs; 2) Controlling documents containing personal or sensitive information to ensure proper protection and accountability; and 3) Employing and applying tracking procedures for classified materials.
