The Credentialing and Privileging Program Office supports all divisions of the VAMC to include support of the credentialing and privileging specialist and the Medical Staff membership, comprised of physicians, dentists, optometrists, psychologists, audiologists, and physician extenders including full-time, part-time, temporary, intermittent, contract, without compensation, fee basis and telehealth. The functions of this job are critical to assuring safe patient care provided by the VAMC.
Duties
Major Duties includes but not limited to:
Utilize significant judgment to inform leadership and appropriate administrative staff of credentialing program changes, new regulatory requirements, policies and procedures or issues and concerns pertaining to the credentialing program.
Manage provider applications (initial) for Non-LIPs credentialing within the hospital.
Manage the work involving the tracking of data and documents in support of the credentialing operation.
Manage a purchase card by ensuring purchases are legitimate and within budget.
Serve as subject matter expert (SME) in the field of credentialing.
Ensure primary source verification to include, but not limited to, state licenses, certifications, and required certifications, including verifications through the National Practitioner Data Bank, state licensing agencies, specialty certification boards, universities, DoD and healthcare facilities.
Provide oversight to the application process; to include analyzing exceptions and deviations in expected application process.
Assure data entry is complete and accurate to meet hospital policy and regulation, and the Joint Commission standards.
Review VetPro or other credentialing database reports detecting problem areas requiring further investigation.
Research reference materials, regulations, and standards to identify appropriate action necessary to correct the problem.
Conduct final appointment into the credentialing database, after thoroughly researching, analyzing and validating all data, information, documents and signature authorities.
Monitor the maintenance of operations of database systems.
Assist Credentialing and Privileging Manager or Analyst in drafting local credentialing procedures for Licensed Independent Providers (LIPs) and Non-LIPs.
Review correspondence and communications for the credentials function and determines which items require immediate attention and which are confidential in nature.
Provide routine and special reports as requested by the Credentialing and Privileging Manager/Analyst.
Communicate with internal and external customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Work Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm; Monday-Friday/ Telework Ad-Hoc

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. Occasionally, light physical effort may be required, such as that involved with walking, stair climbing, and carrying of light office items.
Qualifications

GS-07 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Verifying of information in health care provider files; Maintaining confidentiality of information in accordance with the Privacy Act; Provides quality control checks on data; managing multiple projects and priorities and meets deadlines; using software applications such as word processing and data bases and internet database applications for data entry, file maintenance and data retrieval; and researching reference materials, regulations, and standards to identify appropriate action necessary to correct problems or issues.
