About the Position: This position is located in the Department of Preventive Medicine, Armed Force Wellness Center, Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Liberty, NC.

Duties
Managing, coordinating, planning, organizing and implementing the comprehensive Armed Forces Wellness Center primary prevention services.
Develop curriculum for classes and instruction related to promoting and supporting primary prevention programs and services that enhance and sustain healthy lifestyles.
Prepare, distribute, and arrange for graphic, visual, audio, and other teaching and presentation aids and educational material.
Conduct health assessment reviews and physical fitness testing to determine client’s health and wellness goals providing feedback and health coaching services related to the client's needs.
Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work.
Develop subordinate’s performance standards and makes formal and informal appraisal of work, giving advice, counsel and/or instructions as required.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility may be required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Immunization screening may be required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
- One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Health Educator:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, such as General Education and Training, Public Health Educator, Health Education Programs
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, such as General Education and Training, Public Health Educator, Health Education Programs, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course of study described in A above.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with the implementation and coordination of wellness/health promotion programs offering health consultations, health education, fitness courses, and wellness promotion activities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: General Education and Training, Public Health Educator, Health Education Programs.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
