The Orlando VA Medical Center is currently recruiting one (1) Supervisory Medical Administration Specialist. The incumbent functions as Chief, Patient Processing and Benefits Section (PPBS) within Health Administration Service (HAS) of the Orlando VA Medical Center (OVAMC).
Duties
Serves as Section Chief for Patient Processing & Benefits (PP&B) within Health Administration Service concerning patient processing and legal eligibility requirements for receipt of VHA health care benefits.
Provides technical advice and expertise to the OVAHCS staff and management concerning patient processing activities and legal entitlement/eligibility for services.
Assists in answering inquiries related to patient processing activities and shares information pertaining to recent VHA directives, handbooks, or policies having a direct impact on patient processing activities.
Acts as the liaison with HR concerning personnel related matters.
Evaluates employee performance such as completing performance appraisals, making recommendations for performance awards and/or promotions.
Serves as Funds Control Point official by reviewing fund control point activity and requests made funds/or adjustments.
Communicates with public officials to resolve problems and obtain information to establish station policies to remain in compliance with state, county and municipal policies.
Assists in the preparation, composition, and or drafting of items such as: Items of interest (data) required at the executive level; program activities for service newsletters; documentation of progress towards HAS and OVAHCS performance goals and
objectives.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/30/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Supervisory Medical Administration Specialist and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. Specialized experience includes: Establishing operating guidelines, assigns work requirements, ensures adequate staffing is available, coordinates activities, resolves complex technical work issues not covered by established policies and/or directives, assists in oversight and management of assigned Fund Control Points (FCP's), daily and future planning, assists with human resources functions to include recruitment, position classification, performance, training, etc., and establishes operational guidelines for and coordinate activities of subordinate supervisors relating to organizational structure, performance standards, and work review and reporting to higher level management.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is generally sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the job. However, occasional walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items such as files, books, or boxes containing supplies or items are mailed. No particular physical demands are required to perform the work.
