This position is located at Glen Canyon Recreation Area in the Facility Management Division. This position may be filled for a six-month seasonal period, but can vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Established season is from: October 2023 to April 2024.

Duties

This position provides supervision and oversight and leads the trail crew in the field. Will report back problems and issues to the supervisor. The position provides daily direction and guidance to lower graded employees. Leads at least 3 or more federal employees. The highest level of work led is at the WG-7 level. Major duties are from the following trades: masonry, motor vehicle and equipment operation, and carpentry. Below are further details of duties:
Performing complex backcountry trail maintenance and trail structure construction in remote settings for long periods of time.
Leading crews in the reconstruction of log check runs, rock and log retaining walls, boardwalks and raised turnpikes/causeways, switchback layout and construction, and revegetation effort.
Leading crews in the set up and use of complex rigging systems and the protocols of backcountry work camps.
Leading diverse volunteers (Youth Corps, Student Conservation Association, AmericCorps, Youth Opportuntity Center) in assigned trail maintenance and construction projects.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Ability To Lead Or Supervise (Screen-Out)
Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading)
Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.
Knowledge of materials
Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic)
Use of Measuring Instructions
